When a dog or cat has an accident, the smell sticks because uric acid crystals and other organics soak deep into carpet fibers and padding. We focus on enzymatic cleaners because the enzymes actually digest those residues instead of perfuming over them, which is what keeps a pet from re-marking the same spot. In our evaluation we weighed published label claims, manufacturer directions, and the patterns we see in aggregated owner feedback. We looked at how each formula handles fresh versus set-in stains, whether it is labeled safe for use around pets when dry, and how the scent settles after treatment. What we like is a cleaner that does the work on the first pass without leaving a heavy fragrance behind.
