Choosing the right chicken feed is the single biggest factor in flock health, egg quality, and long-term productivity. A laying hen converts feed directly into eggs, bone, and feather, so the protein, calcium, and micronutrient balance in the bag matters more than almost anything else you do. Feed an incomplete or under-fortified ration and you will see it within weeks: thin shells, soft molts, reduced lay, and pale yolks.
When you shop, look for the words โcomplete feedโ and a guaranteed analysis on the tag. For active layers, target around 16 percent protein and 3.5 to 4.5 percent calcium, plus added vitamins, methionine, and ideally probiotics for gut health. Match the form, crumble or pellet, to your birdsโ age and feeding setup, and always pair layer feed with fresh water and free-choice grit. The right ration is preventive medicine in a bag.
