Bare ground in a dog run turns to mud after rain and traps waste and odor, which is why dedicated kennel flooring is worth the setup. In our evaluation we found the main choices are waterproof decking tiles that lift dogs off wet ground and artificial turf that offers a softer, grass-like surface. We compared options from Veehoo, a raised kennel run system, and XLX TURF on drainage, paw comfort, and how easily they hose clean. We assessed these against manufacturer specifications and aggregated owner feedback rather than season-long outdoor testing of our own. What we like is that both approaches solve the core problem of keeping dogs off mud while letting liquid drain away. We recommend choosing decking when drainage and easy rinsing are the priority, and turf when paw comfort and a natural feel matter more. Size the flooring to your run and account for your climate, since drainage and heat retention vary by material.
