When we evaluated folding exercise pens, we focused on the balance between containment and convenience: a pen needs to hold a dog securely yet fold flat for storage and travel. We compared several metal playpens, including MidWest and FDW panel pens, by panel count, height, enclosed area and the durability owners reported. What we like about this category is that a good pen gives a puppy a safe space and gives owners breathing room, indoors or out. We weighed panel height against jump risk, footprint against the dog’s size, and base stability on different surfaces. Because a pen is a containment tool and not a substitute for supervision, we recommend matching height and footprint to your dog and always supervising puppies and strong jumpers.
