A humane live trap is the responsible way to move a nuisance rabbit or small animal out of a garden without killing it. The whole point is a clean, stress-minimized catch followed by a safe release, so the trap has to trip reliably, close fast, and hold an animal without injuring it. We tested for the things that actually decide success in a yard. A trip plate that is too stiff lets a light rabbit eat the bait and walk away, while a door that closes slowly gives a quick animal time to bolt. Build matters for both the animal and you, since flimsy wire lets a panicked animal injure itself or chew free, and a trap with no protected handle makes carrying a frightened animal risky. We favored traps that let you cover and carry the cage without putting your hands near a scared animal. Check your local wildlife rules before relocating anything, because release laws vary by region and species, and some areas require on-site release.
