If you keep a bearded dragon, leopard gecko, or any basking reptile, the lamp fixture matters as much as the bulb inside it. A cheap fixture with a plastic socket can soften under a 100-watt basking bulb, and a weak clamp can slip off the rim and drop hot glass into the enclosure. We looked at dome size, socket material (ceramic beats plastic for high-wattage heat), maximum wattage rating, and how the cord and switch sit relative to the screen top. Deep domes spread heat better and protect the bulb. Clamp models give you angle flexibility but need a genuinely strong spring and a stable mounting point. We also paid attention to whether the fixture runs UVB and heat separately, since combining the wrong bulb in an undersized dome traps heat. Read the wattage limit printed on your fixture and never exceed it. Match the dome depth to your bulb length so the glass never sits flush with the screen.
