Tap water carries minerals and contaminants that can fuel algae and stress sensitive livestock, which is why many aquarists turn to reverse osmosis. We evaluated RO and RO/DI systems against manufacturer stage counts, output specs and aggregated owner feedback, focusing on water purity, filtration stages and how straightforward each system is to install and maintain. The right system depends on your tank type, since reef setups often need RO/DI for the purest water while many freshwater tanks do well with RO alone. We looked at the number of stages, the inclusion of a deionization resin step, and overall build for everyday use. Our aim is to help you produce consistent, clean source water without overcomplicating your setup.
