They are affectionate and protective with their own family members, often forming especially strong bonds with the children in their household. However, their large size and boisterous energy mean they are better suited to families with older children rather than toddlers. Families should also be aware that the breed's high prey drive can make coexistence with smaller pets challenging without careful management.

Rhodesian Ridgebacks are intelligent dogs but are not considered easy to train due to their independent and strong-willed nature.
