What matters most for allergies
For an allergy-prone dog, the orthopedic support is only half the job. The cover matters just as much. Look for a tightly woven, hypoallergenic fabric with a fully removable, machine washable cover so you can strip out dander, pollen, and dust mites on a regular wash cycle. A waterproof inner liner stops allergens and moisture soaking into the foam, which is where smells and mites build up. Avoid loose-fill stuffing that traps debris and is hard to clean.
Portability helps here because a bed that folds and travels can be washed often and aired in the sun, which naturally reduces mite load. Choose solid memory or supportive foam over fluffy fill, since it holds shape and washes cleaner. Wash bedding weekly in a hot cycle during high-pollen months. If your dog scratches, chews paws, or has recurring skin flare-ups, the bed helps but a vet should confirm what the allergy actually is.
