A determined chewer can destroy a soft bed in an afternoon, so we focused this guide on beds engineered to survive teeth, claws, and the constant pressure of a heavy dog. We compared chew-resistant crate pads and orthopedic beds, weighing the fabric’s tear resistance, how the seams and zippers are protected, and whether the cover survives repeated machine washing. No bed is truly indestructible, so we judged how well each resists damage rather than promising it cannot fail. In our evaluation we found the toughest beds combine ripstop or reinforced fabric with hidden or reinforced seams that give teeth nothing to grab. For large breeds we also weighed orthopedic support, since a tough cover means little if the fill flattens under a 70-pound dog. What we like are beds that pair a rugged exterior with a waterproof, washable layer, because power chewers often double as muddy outdoor dogs.
