Older dogs and heavy breeds put real pressure on their joints when they lie down, and a flat, worn-out bed makes that worse. We looked at the orthopedic memory-foam beds owners choose for joint support, comparing foam density and recovery, how easily the cover washes, and whether a waterproof liner protects the foam. A bed that flattens under a big dog within weeks is not orthopedic in any meaningful sense. In our evaluation we found supportive foam that does not bottom out, a removable washable cover, and a waterproof inner liner are the features that matter for large and senior dogs. A non-slip base helps a stiff dog get up without the bed sliding. What we like is a bed sized so a large dog can lie fully stretched, with foam that springs back rather than compressing flat. We want to add: orthopedic beds support comfort, but joint problems and mobility changes are reasons to consult your veterinarian.
